Hey guys,

So my work (EY) is running a business networking thing to connect female athletes to business leaders to answer questions, give advice etc to tap into the leadership potential of female athletes. The summary of it and the link is below- it sounds pretty interesting.

EY did a survey piece with women in leadership positions and 94% of the respondees in management positions came from a background in sport. (http://www.worldrowing.com/mm//Document ... eutral.pdf).

I just thought i'd post the link here in case anyone wanted to sign up and see what it was all about.

Women Athletes Business Network
-The Women Athletes Business Network aims to inspire, open doors and make connections for career-minded female athletes who aspire to be leaders outside of their sport. It’s part of EY’s commitment toward building a better working world. We believe elite female athletes represent an often untapped leadership pipeline — and we all know the world needs more women leaders.

-Our online community is a platform for elite female athletes, as well as for business professionals who would like to support these women. Please review the qualifications listed below. If you fall within one of the following categories, you can register by selecting your respective registration box. There is no limit on the number of people who can join.

I can't stop reading the website now- I just found a report talking about gender parity and the role that sport can play and has a big section about the link between Olympic medals won and the societal role of women in the country

"Past research has concluded that Olympic success results from
a country’s income or size, plus other factors such as Olympic
host advantage and being under a communist regime. But this
is not the whole story. Whether a female athlete participates
in the Games or wins a medal “is a more complex product
of a country’s socio-economic environment,” the Peterson
researchers say. In fact, using the 2012 Olympics as an
example, a slight uptick in the level of female schooling would
result in the inclusion of eight more women athletes and bring
home eight more medals in female events."

It also matters what people think about women’s place in
society and the workplace. For example, comparing Olympic
outcomes against cross-country surveys, the researchers found that when respondents believe marriage is more satisfying when both partners work, there is an increase in the number of medals that women win. Conversely, when there is
an increase in respondents who believe university education is more important for a boy than a girl, there is a drop in the number of medals won. "
