Details of organised street skates hvae now been added to this list.

The Easy Peasy skate is suitable for beginners. The Sunday stroll is the most leisurely street skate.

T47 has a nice chilled family Sunday Skate which is great for beginners and is run by Samee who does Skate Heaven. There's a skate instructor there, maybe two if you're lucky.

There's also a Monday night Learn to Skate at Manor House, but this clashes with Rec practice, and you don't want that, do ya?

Good point. In that case, Manor house practice can be found here, if you're on Farcebook:

A few of us rookies used to go just a few months back so assume it is still running...

Just a tidbit for information - I have heard the Tatum Park track is best for skating in the early morning through mid-day. There are speed skaters and sometimes skateboarders there from early afternoon through the evening so it can get hectic.

The London Speed Skaters practice there on Sunday mornings if I remember correctly.

Re: Outdoor skating

I've been in touch with my local council, Southwark, to check which parks it's OK to skate at. Believe it or not, there are some in London where you'll get turfed out for skating.

Your borough may well vary, but Rosie Thornton from Southwark Council has confirmed that "you are welcome to roller blade [sic] in all our parks as long as you take due care around other park users."

I got this response by firing off a one-line email, so if you're in any doubt about your local park, or have had hassle from The Man while skating in one, it's worth asking. After all, parks are free, and some are well-suited for practicing - both in terms of surface (perhaps using a cheap pair of outdoor wheels), and the fact you can practice evasion by skating around people (respectfully!).

:yeah:

This list is great--thank you!! I'll probably try to hit up Manor House next Monday. Are there any other newbies waiting to join the rec league that may be interested in meeting up to skate? Aaaanybody? :boing:
