The Crippler from Steel City has done a gear survey of 200+ skaters and posted the wheels results here

No surprises but might be useful info for someone...

Quick question about wheels; After reading and re-reading this, I still don't know!

I'm new to derby but not new to skating at all, so pretty confident on skates. I'm using Radar Catman wheels and found them really slippery on the floor at Brixton. They're also the wheels my skates came with, so I should probably customise it a bit.

I like speed but realise I'll need something with more grip so I was thinking about going for a combo of Heartless Voodoo 86a and Vanish 96a. Wheels seem to be quite a tricky thing to get right and I'm guessing it's more trial and error to see what suits your skating style - but any advice/tips would be really useful.

Thanks!! xx

What wheels are people skating on at the moment? I'm about to get a couple new sets and looking for recomendations.

Something I can mix and match like I have been doing with the heartless wheels.

Atoms slim: grods, lowboys, strokers, stingers, poisons - wouldn't skate on anything other than atom shiz. I do want some jukes though.

Thanks - I'm thinking I'll probably go with atoms, going back to a slightly wider wheel than the heartless.

Does anyone skate on rollerbones? I tried aluminium hubs before and wasn't a huge fan - anyone got good stuff to say about them?

I think Stef is trying out a bunch of Radar wheels now, so you might want to ask her how they compare to Atom

I LOVE my Jukes. They're good for pretty much every surface except CoLA and the one time I forgot my venoms I actually coped better than I thought I would with the jukes.

I like a teeny tiny wheel hence the jukes & venoms. Venoms are basically tiny Poisons:

I discovered when I tried the sugars a while back to deal with CoLA that a large wheel exacerbates my shin problems and makes me really clumsy as I trip over my own wheels. Viva la 59mms.

Hi y'all

Im a newbie and ive just tried to change my wheels but there are bearings which I just cannot get out! So I figure I'll just leave those ones in and buy some more!
Can anyone recommend some good brands that don't cost mega bucks please ? :)
Thank you for any help :):)

Bones reds you can buy em on ebay for pretty cheap and I love em. Remember you need 16 for 8 wheels.

Thank you, I'm on it :) also reading further I guess I don't have the right wheel tool as I think a good one takes out the bearings! :)

Try using the axle of your truck to get the bearing out. Not sure of the best way to describe this mind you...

Holding the wheel in one hand and skate on floor - Put the axle inside the bearing (inside the wheel) but not all the way so it rests just on the inside rim - then angle the wheel down and try to pop it out using the axle - like you are taking the top off a beer bottle - make sense? :s

failing my description sure there is a YouTube vid! X

Anyone, what wheel hardness is good for Stonebridge but is also diverse enough to be ok on many other floors we might use (except COLA)?

My current set is half 92a and half 89a and I use them on all floors, except for COLA. They are fine but I'm getting new skates with a package so need to choose the hardness.

help :skate:

I've used my red and white heartless and stonebridge, tottenham and earls court in the past and they've faired pretty well on all three surfaces.
